Eminent educationalists and the philanthropic public who rendered their services to the college include Smt. D. Saraswathi Devi, Justice Smt. JaganMohini, Sri. S. GopalaSastry and Sri.Kancharla Rama Chandra Rao.
It was only through the untiring efforts of the Founder President, Sri. Singarapu Surya Rao, the college was admitted into grant in aid as early as 1978. In the year 1983 the college was bifurcated into Visakha Govt. Degree College for Women and Visakha Junior College for girls. As the HawaMahal became unsuitable, the college was shifted to the present premises, the erstwhile Borstal School campus belonging to Central Prison as it was taken over by the Govt. of A.P vide G.O Rt. No. 2136 Edn Dt. 22-11-1992.
As the only Govt. Women’s College in the district, Visakha Govt. Degree College for Women is catering to the needs of many girl students in their pursuit for higher learning. A large majority of the students come from weaker sections who cannot afford to study in private colleges paying higher fees. As a result, there is a great demand for seats in all the courses.
